RETOLD FOR THE NETWORK

Minister of Gonggong, nine-headed and serpent-bodied; everywhere it passed turned to marsh. It is a single will amplified without limit — nine heads feeding on the same mountains until even it had nowhere left to stand. A reminder to every network: expansion without restraint drowns the expander.

OMENS
Nine heads feeding on one mountain, until there is no ground left to stand on. Your appetite knows this sooner than you do.
There is only one way for a flood to recede: stop, first.

What the passage describes

Xiangliu serves Gonggong, has nine heads, feeds across nine mountains, and turns the places it reaches into marshes and streams. The surrounding passage continues beyond Yu's killing of the creature: its blood leaves land unsuitable for grain, and remediation proves difficult. The story concerns the aftermath as well as the monster.

What not to read into it

Extracting only the nine heads turns the entry into a power ranking. Reading the water, blood, and unusable soil together reveals a different emphasis on lasting consequences. SYNREX's theme of unchecked expansion is a modern interpretation of those consequences, not an ecological theory stated in the ancient text.
